Our History

Wise Family Farm was established in 1926 when Monroe and Carrie Belle Dowdy Wise settled on to 80 acres in the Shady Grove Community located in Pontotoc County Mississippi about 5 miles east of Ecru. This little farm sustained them and their six children. The farm provided Monroe, Carrie Belle and the children with healthy vegetables, home grown pork, beef, poultry and dairy products.

Today, Wise Family Farm is owned and operated by the third generation of Wises. This little slice of Flatwood Soil is providing fresh vegetables for the local community and a wholesome family friendly agriculture educational and entertainment adventures for the greater North Mississippi area.

Each year hundreds of students travel to Wise Family Farm for a hands-on educational day long field trip to learn about agriculture. They also get needed outdoor exercise in a safe learning environment away from the distractions of video games and television.

Wise Family Farm is also opened to the public and provides a unique fun, safe and entertaining environment to get up close and personal with nature and away from the hustle of busy lives. Families make memories that will last a lifetime and learn about how their food gets from the farm to the table.

Spring and Summer

We start our year off with spring and summer field trips where groups are invited out to the farm to learn about plant life cycle.  They will have hands on experience in preparing their own tomato plant to plant at home as well as their very own little sunflower pot.   Afterwards the students can picnic and enjoy the playgrounds.

As we move further into the summer season our sunflowers start to bloom and the public is invited to pack a picnic and come out and enjoy the flower fields, playgrounds and Barnyard Alley.  We have plenty of shaded picnic table areas. Reserve a watermelon ahead of time and we will have a chilled one waiting for you.   Be sure and pick up some fresh vegetables at the road side market before you leave.    We have been producing farm fresh vegetable for almost a century now and have a summer road side stand that offers farm fresh tomatoes, sweet corn, watermelon and cantaloupe.  We also serve homemade and Blue Bell ice cream and snow cones at our summer market stand. A perfect summer treat!

FALL

Leaves turn gold and burnt orange and begin to fall as we move into the fall harvest of soy beans, cotton and field corn here at Wise Family Farm but more excitedly, its pumpkin harvest time!  Come pick that perfect pumpkin for pumpkin pie or a Halloween jack-o-lantern for your porch.  During your visit here on the farm learn about all the different crops that are grown on the farm and how they are used in so many different products that we use every day.  From cereal and tooth paste to paint and money, you may discover something you didn’t know. You will also enjoy the festive feel of the farm with the music, the smell of kettle corn in the air and family and friends having a good time with all the farm activities here at Wise Family Farm. Be sure and get that perfect photo in the pumpkin patch and try not to get too lost in the maze.  No need to bring a lunch this season, we have a full grill serving up good food and lots of sweet treats like kettle corn, ice cream, fudge and more. Stop in our Country Store for fun gifts, homemade jelly, fudge and other sweets.  Start a new fall family tradition, come out to the Wise Family Farm and make memories to last a life time.
